The Corazon Project: The Heart of East San Jose

Block2Block radio host David Madrid talks with East Side Heroes founder Enrique Flores and South Bay Film maker Daniel Osorio about the “Corazon Project” an effort to engage East San Jose youth in mural projects, mentoring and bringing peace to the Overfelt neighborhood.

In 2010, there were a total of 20 homicides in San Jose. But through December 2011, homicides have doubled at 41 and violent crimes have risen dramatically at an alarming rate. In response to the current turmoil, a group is formed called 'The Corazon Project' to get at risk, gang affiliated teenagers to help fight the cycle of violence within their own neighborhoods through methods and acts of non-violence in hopes to stop the violence that continues to plague their community.
