Dia de San Jose returns for Day of the Dead Celebration Downtown

5th Annual Día de Los Muertos Festival! Saturday October 25th from 11am to 6pm at St. James Park. Free and open to the public + The first ever Dia de los Muertos Taco Major League Eating Contest. Opening night reception at SJ City Hall Rotunda October 23, 2014

The Day of the Dead is a traditional Mexican celebration. A day of remembrance and celebration in honor of the dead. Dia de los Muertos is a celebration of life and death…a festive and joyous event.

On Thursday, October 23 from 6pm to 9pm, the City Hall Rotunda will be transformed into an art gallery depicting the Day of the Dead through diversity and acceptance by the people of San Jose.

Traditional art, music, images, and other elements will adorn the Rotunda to enrich the community on a day of remembrance and celebration of life.

Our 5th Día de Los Muertos Festival will be held on Saturday, October 25, 2014

Día De Los Muertos has a long history in Mexican tradition. Although called Day of The Dead, it is a celebration of life. The holiday focuses on gatherings of family and friends to pray for and remember friends and family members who have passed.

This is our 5th annual celebration of Dia de Los Muertos. It is steeped in tradition, culture and an amazing display of San José’s long history with its Mexican past. It has grown in attendance to over 4,000 attendees and continues to prosper.

Día San José will be filled with fun for the entire family with music, food, local artists and vendors, Lucha Libre Wrestling, MLE Taco Eating Contest, and so much more!!!

The first-ever Dia De Los Muertos Taco Eating Contest will feature, as the name would suggest, the mighty taco—and the mighty Chacho’s Taco at that. This 10-minute, all-you-can eat contest is sanctioned by Major League Eating and MLE eaters are warmly invited to register for their chance at glory.

Do you dare challenge yourself against the world’s greatest eaters? Do you wish to see history made in this battle of man vs woman vs taco? Then present thyself at the Dia De Los Muertos Taco Eating Contest this October 25th! In the crowd or at the table—don’t you ever miss it!
